I (heart) Brazil

By , January 28, 2011 10:40 pm

Ever been to a Brazilian steakhouse?  Expensive, yes, worth it, double yes.

Haus and I went to Fogo de Chao tonight for dinner with our sweet Monday Night friends and I remembered how much I love Brazilian food.  Fogo de Chao is sooo much like the Brazilian steakhouse we visited when we traveled to Brazil and it brought back great memories.  Find out if there is a Fogo near you (I’ve gone to other supposed Brazilian steakhouses and they just don’t compare).  Eat as much picanha as you can grab with those cute little meat tongs they give you.  Wash it down with a caipirinha or, my personal favorite, Guarana Soda!

Sorry this post is so short.  I gorged myself on amazing food and have to put this little Brazilian food baby to bed.  Oh and I promise to write about my Brazilian trip in my story!

Do you journal?

By , January 25, 2011 9:36 pm

I’ve been reading through my journal entries from college the last few days to add to my story.  I’ve kept a journal since age nine and my college journal, especially my Junior year of college, is particularly interesting. My favorite college professor, Linda Lawrence Hunt, required journaling for one of her classes.  I’m so so so thankful now that she made me provide regular entries as that year, more than any other year of my life, I changed so much.

My question then is do you journal?  Do you write out your prayers or funny stories?  I have a journal for each of the boys that lists interesting things about their current stages as I see it.  I stopped writing in my personal journal regularly after the boys were born (well, I did write a bit when I deployed the last time) and hope that one day they will appreciate the sacrifice I’m making to document their childhood.  Pshhhhh, who am I kidding?  I hope their wives like it someday.

This blog has become my journal again.  Sometimes I wonder what I’ll think of all my entries in ten years. Will I laugh at my drama?  You’d think I’m not as dramatic as I was in college, but, truth be told, I still have my moments.  Whatever I think in ten years, I’ll be thankful for those of you that stop by every once in awhile to read my dribble.  If you don’t journal, start.  Even a few lines a day. Knowing where I’ve come from is helping me navigate where I’m trying to go.

P.S.  Once I muddle through my junior year entries, I’ll post more of my story tomorrow.

31 days straight

By , January 24, 2011 10:17 pm

So I cheated. I promised I would blog every day this month and I’ve had a few problems.

First, there was the panic attack.

Then this weekend.  Army drill. I got home Sunday night after a full two days of Army stuff and didn’t write a thing. In fact, I don’t even remember hitting the pillow. Haus said that he found me last night face down in bed, still fully clothed.  The posts I published Saturday and Sunday, I wrote today.  Cheater, cheater, I know.

So, here’s what I what I will do. I will be blogging every day for the next ten days, seven days left in the month and three days to make up for my technical issues during the panic attack.  I also won’t cheat again and promise there won’t be any more lists.

Anything in particular you want to hear about?  Let me know and it will be done!

What I love about serving in the National Guard

By , January 23, 2011 9:10 pm

- It can get my Army fix and stay at home to raise my boys

- Still have to deal with the Army nonsense, but only one weekend a month

- The squeals when I come in the door after a weekend away

- Belleville boots are surprisingly very comfortable

- Haus appreciates everything I do during the week when he has to do it by himself over the weekend

- It’s COMPLETELY different work than raising two boys (PS Raising the boys is much harder… see this post)

- I get paid to jump out of airplanes

- Makes me appreciate the blessings of my stay at home mom job more

- Reduced health care costs

- Haus lets me take his truck to drill, no offense Camry, but the Tundra rocks!

- Army friends

- Interaction with adults and no poopy diapers

- Annual training = fun overseas travel

- Allows me to stay at home and raise my boys… wait, did I already say that?  It’s the best!
