Salmon Patches and Angel Kisses *UPDATED*
I can’t believe it’s been over a year and a half since I first posted about Zeke’s birth marks. Seems like yesterday, we were taking his first year pictures and now he’s walking, talking, and almost three!
I’ve been so encouraged by the comments I received after I first posted and wanted to give those of you that asked for an update some new pictures. Here’s a picture from my first post of Zeke’s angel kiss or, as one reader pointed out, what looks like an angel on his forehead:
Here’s a pic of him a year and a half later:
This one’s from a few weeks ago:
And here’s another taken a few weeks ago:

Depending upon his temperature, the lighting at the time of the picture, and his attitude, the marks range from a darker pink to almost completely transparent. I’ll be honest that it is rare anymore for me to remember that he even has birth marks!
It’s hard to explain, but his patches are as much a part of him as his sweet little pink lips or the blond of his hair. Just as a big smile on his face tells me he’s happy, that “V” on his forehead tells me he’s hot as it shows up after he’s been running around or he’s sad/angry as it’s vivid with tears. I don’t notice it anymore than his smiles or tears or hair color, it’s just… him.

I think those are sweet!! Carter was born with more birth marks than both my girls put together. He actually has a lot of Mongolian spots. One on his ankle that looks like ink (for a long time I thought it was footprint ink that I didn’t get off!), but on his back they look like very light bruises (which scares me, because if people don’t know what they are….). Oh, and he was born with a thing that looks like a mix between a wart and a callous on his left index finger. Really interesting, I can find NO information on babies being born WITH a wart, however, the funny thing is that it’s the same finger he sucked on in utero! (which is why we originally pegged it as a callous when he was born…until MIL pointed it out I’d thought it was vernix and was trying to pick it off or rub it in! LOL)
Oh, but I forgot to say…the thing on his finger…people get freaked out by it! I’m constantly getting asked when we’re getting it taken off. The thing is, it doesn’t hurt him or bother him in any way, it’s just purely cosmetic. But for some reason people really think it needs to go. But it’s just part of my sweet boy and I hate that it seems to gross people out or make them think he’s not “right” until it’s gone!
How funny that you tried to wash birthmarks off, Bryn! I seriously thought for days that Zeke’s red marks were from pushing him out to fast. I don’t get the whole “why don’t you do something” attitude I get about Zeke’s angel kisses either. He and I are happy with them so who cares!
My daughter has the same V. Looks exactly like your child’s mark. It’s not a natural birthmark at all – it’s the doctor who was using his/her finger trying to find the spot between the baby’s eye just above the nose to help pull the baby during delivery while you were pushing. I was there – saw the whole thing happen and didn’t know better then to stop it! I can’t believe no one has posted such a message out there yet, but I have seen exactly this marking on at least a couple of other babies in the last 2 years
Zach- interesting comment. Zeke’s mark is a definite birth mark as he practically flew out at birth. Thanks for stopping by!
I am so glad that you posted this. I’ve wondered for as long as I could wonder, exactly what it was on my forehead and slightly between my eyes. No one has had an answer for me until now. Thankfully, my kids frequently read my mood by looking at my “Angel Kiss.” Today, they did just that – and, it annoyed me as I was attempting to mask my emotion. So, I decided to “google it” and your son’s beautiful picture and your beautiful blog entry popped up – I feel so blessed. Thank you.
I just wanted to post a comment about this because I have the same mark and I have had it my whole life. Just like your son, it shows more when I am hot or angry. My friend just had a son and he has the mark too. He is the first person I’ve met in nearly 35 years who has the “V”. I can say for certain that Zach’s assessment was wrong, since my friend’s baby and I were both born via c-section.
Thanks for the comments, Audra and Tiffany! Will be interesting to see what Zeke’s kiddos think of his “V”.
I was born with an angels kiss as well, I was researching it out of curiosity. still have my “V” (17 years old btw) but isn’t as noticeable as before! I was also born with a heart on my ring finger, perfectly shaped and curved that is where i think I’m unique. Strangely at times when I’ve gone to church 2 priests have said that I was “very special” other things, but don’t know if it has to do with the mark but I definitely know I am blessed, love my Lord very much (: take care of your child, definitely never give up on hard times, let others keep you down, or whatever it is know that God takes care of you (: Ciao
Thank you for the encouragement, Alejandra! You most definitely are blessed. Come and visit again soon!
