Commissioned a new Army officer into the Corps, finally saw my dad after his year long deployment to Baghdad, spent a few days with fabulous military friends in Alabama, traveled ALONE with my almost-two-year-old, and made it through a Army Physical Fitness Test I found out about the night before gorging myself on chips and dip.
It’s been quite a week. Best part of all of it was hearing my little boy tell my dad, “I sure missed you, Grandpa” and beg to sleep by his bedside.

Doesn’t get any sweeter than that.

Alicia and Alyssa. Living the dream.
Tomorrow, I’m flying to Fort Benning, Georgia (with a stop in Montgomery, AL) to commission one of my first administrative non-commissioned officers.
I’m not packed, leaving in a few hours, beyond tired, oh, and taking my 18 month old with me. You know, the one nicknamed, “Screamer”? So wish me luck. I am honored and excited to commission Alicia and know that she will make an incredible officer.
Now if I can just memorize the oath on the plane to swear her into the Officer Corps! (see below)
I (insert name), having been appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army under the conditions indicated in this document, do accept such appointment and do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God.
